FEATURES
🏰 The 1970 Château Haut-Brion is a First Growth that has perhaps been overshadowed by the Latour 1970, but it should not be underestimated. This vintage has shown remarkable evolution over time; in the 1980s and early 1990s, it was more red-fruited and high-toned, but by the new century, it became more classically black-fruited, gaining weight in the mid-palate. It's a sturdy wine that has kept threatening to become supple. This wine typically presents a brown rim with notes of brown sugar, olives, and leather on the nose, leading to coffee, sweet red fruits, blackberry leaf, and cranberry with cedar, pine, and tobacco-infused, cedary fruit. It is medium-bodied, tannic, and chewy with sous-bois and a bitter chocolate finish, often described as fully mature. More recently, it has developed a classic bouquet of cassis, black cherries, brick dust, cigar smoke, and gravelly soil tones. The palate is deep, full-bodied, and elegant, with melted tannins and a long, silky, complex finish. Some bottles show alluring soft cherry fruit, chocolate, vanilla, and classic Graves smoke, with a soft and elegant palate of slightly tart cherry, smoky, earthy mid-palate, and a finish carrying cigar, cedar, and smoke. 【波爾多五大一級莊之一】 For a wine of this age, careful handling is paramount. The cork may be fragile, so a Durand opener or an Ah-So cork puller is highly recommended to prevent breakage. Decanting is advisable for 1-2 hours to allow the wine to breathe and separate from any sediment that has formed over five decades. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 15.5°C (60°F), to preserve its freshness and lift. 🍴 Chateau Haut-Brion is best served with classic meat dishes such as veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, and grilled dishes. Specific suggestions include Beef Wellington, roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, grilled ribeye or côte de boeuf, and venison or game meats. It also pairs well with rich and heavy steaks and aged Parmesan. 🥂 This venerable First Growth is ideal for a landmark celebration, a significant anniversary, or a sophisticated gathering of connoisseurs. It's a wine that commands respect and offers a profound historical tasting experience, perfect for a very special occasion where its maturity and complexity can be fully appreciated.
