FEATURES
🏰【A rare and historic bottle, the 1974 Chateau de Pommard Pommard Grand Vin offers a profound journey into Burgundy's past, showcasing the appellation's renowned aging potential.】 The 1974 vintage in Burgundy was challenging, yet well-preserved bottles from esteemed producers like Chateau de Pommard can still deliver a unique experience. Pommard wines are celebrated for their deep color, firm structure, and ability to evolve beautifully over decades. Expect a bouquet rich in tertiary aromas of dried fruits, damp earth, leather, and subtle spices, rather than vibrant fresh fruit. The palate, while mature, should reveal softened tannins and a savory, classic profile, a true reflection of its age and terroir. 🍴 This venerable Pommard is ideally suited for rich, slow-cooked meats such as beef bourguignon, braised game, or classic roasted duck. It also harmonizes beautifully with aged, washed-rind cheeses like Époisses. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly special occasion, perhaps a milestone anniversary or a gathering of serious wine connoisseurs. It's a contemplative wine, best enjoyed in a quiet setting where its history can be savored. *Serving Suggestion for Aged Wine:* For a wine of this age, careful handling is paramount. Stand the bottle upright for several days to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently just before serving to separate the wine from its sediment, and be prepared for a potentially fragile cork and capsule. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Chateau de Pommard is a winery and wine merchant located in the Burgundy region. While best known for its namesake Pommard wine, the portfolio also includes a range of Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir from across the Côte d'Or. Chardonnay wine. This also includes some grand cru wines. In addition to its two unique chateau buildings, the winery has 20 hectares (50 acres) of walled vineyard Clos Marey-Monge. The estate dates back to its founding in 1726 by a nobleman of the court of Louis XV. The property was purchased by Maurice Giraud in 2003 and an improvement plan was implemented. In 2016 it was acquired by Silicon Valley businessman Michael Baum, whose team has begun converting the estate to biodynamic farming.
