🏰 The 2011 vintage in Northern Rhône, particularly Côte-Rôtie, presented challenges with above-average early heat, an August heat spike, and two September rainfalls. However, with patience and intense vineyard management, including green-harvesting twice more than usual, 2011 turned out to be a surprisingly strong vintage, producing wines with finesse and supple fruit. Some compare the wines to the 2007s, with the 2011s possessing more flair. E. Guigal's Château d'Ampuis is a flagship wine, made from seven exceptional vineyards in both Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, with vines averaging 50 years of age.
E. Guigal Château d'Ampuis 2011 has a deep dark color with mauve tints. The hallmark is an unbelievably seductive perfume full of sweet red and black fruits, spices, and an elegance despite intense concentration. Notes include black fruits, vanilla bean, cured meats, graphite, plums, blackberry, and cedar, black tea, and dried star anise. The palate is tannic and racy, powerful, concentrated, and structured, with silky tannins making it approachable now but capable of aging well for at least 10-15 years. 【 In the challenging 2011 vintage, Guigal's masterful craftsmanship produced a powerful yet elegant flagship Côte-Rôtie 】
🍴 This bold and structured Syrah is excellent with lamb, beef stew, grilled meats (especially lamb and beef), hamburgers, meatloaf, and sausages. Dishes with herbs like thyme and basil, or spices like cumin, paprika, and cinnamon, will complement the wine's characteristics.
🥂 A superb wine for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion, or a serious tasting of Northern Rhône Syrah. It's approachable now but will continue to evolve beautifully with further cellaring.
