Michel Gay, Savigny Les Beaune Serpentieres 1er Cru, 2021
🏰 The 2021 布根地 vintage was a challenging year marked by severe April frosts and mildew pressure, resulting in historically low yields. However, it's also hailed as a return to a more classic, refined style, with fresher, lighter wines and lower alcohol levels, appealing to 布根地 purists. Domaine Michel Gay is a highly respected reference in the Côte de Beaune, and their Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru Aux Serpentières is considered one of the finest and best-exposed parcels in the appellation. 【 A classic, terroir-driven Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru from a highly respected Côte de Beaune domaine, offering a refined style in a challenging but rewarding vintage 】.
Expect a deep cherry color with crimson highlights. The nose will be redolent of small black and red fruits (blackcurrant, cherry, raspberry) and flowers (violets). The palate is wonderfully supple and medium-bodied, balancing a juicy core of fresh raspberry and dark summer berries with velvety, fine-grained tannins and energetic acidity, leading to a long finish with notes of damp earth and baking spice.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a gathering of 布根地 enthusiasts, or a special meal to appreciate a classic, terroir-driven Pinot Noir. A 30-minute decant is recommended.
🍴 This Premier Cru pairs magnificently with roasted duck with cherries, beef fillet en croûte with mushrooms, rack of lamb with Provençal herbs, pheasant in a casserole, or game birds. It also harmonizes with aged pressed-paste cheeses like 18-month Comté, Époisses, or Cîteaux. For Eastern pairings, consider it with Peking duck, roasted pigeon, or a delicate mushroom hotpot.
