🏰 The 2020 Burgundy vintage, despite being mostly hot and very dry, produced surprisingly fresh and excellent wines, with moderate alcohol levels [cite: 41 in previous search, 51 in previous search]. The challenge was to harvest each parcel at the optimum moment, especially for Pinot Noir. Domaine de Montille, a renowned estate, successfully navigated these conditions to produce a Volnay Champans 1er Cru of high quality.
This wine offers a perfumed, floral nose with traces of iris and violet infusing blueberry and raspberry fruit, benefiting from 50% whole cluster fermentation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh and lively with a keen line of acidity, leading to a structured, persistent finish. Neal Martin (Vinous) rated it 91-93 points. Allen Meadows (Burghound) gave it 91-94 points, noting its delicate and refined middle-weight flavors with plenty of punch and a youthfully austere, complex, and long finish that advises patience. It displays a vivid dark red color, an abundant bouquet of red fruits and earthy notes, with elegant and soft tannins, sweet touches of oak, and ripe fruity aromas, culminating in good depth and a lovely harmonious finish. 【Pioneering biodynamic Volnay from a highly regarded vineyard】
🍴 This Volnay 1er Cru pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. When young, it complements white meats and poultry, such as chicken or rabbit stew, braised pork shoulder, or seared tuna steak. With age, it will shine alongside roast duck, game birds, sweetbreads, or subtly flavored game [cite: 25 in previous search]. Braised pork belly or grilled beef steaks are also excellent choices [cite: 42 in previous search].
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a special celebration, or a vertical tasting with other Domaine de Montille wines. Its elegance, structure, and aging potential make it a wine to be savored and appreciated over time.
