🏰 The 1974 vintage for Burgundy was generally disappointing, marked by a cool spring, lukewarm summer, and rain during the crucial ripening period, followed by cold, wet weather in September. However, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's La Tâche is renowned for being exceptional even in difficult vintages. This Grand Cru Pinot Noir, from one of Burgundy's most famous estates, is deeply colored and develops an extraordinary palette of dark fruits, truffle, and spices. Tasting notes for the 1974 La Tâche describe a nose with raisin, fig, soy, and a hint of mint, though some bottles may show volatile acidity and decaying earth, with the palate mostly devoid of fruit but retaining acidity and a complex finish. Despite the vintage's challenges, the wine can still offer a rich and concentrated bouquet with infinite tones that melt on the palate.
Given its age, this wine requires careful handling. Old corks can be fragile, so use a Durand opener or similar tool. Decanting is recommended to separate any sediment and allow the wine to breathe, but be gentle and monitor its evolution closely, as very old wines can fade quickly once exposed to air. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 This aged Grand Cru Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with classic dishes like roasted duck, goose, or other game birds.
🥂 An incredibly rare and special bottle, ideal for a milestone anniversary or a highly exclusive tasting event for serious collectors. 【DRC's legendary Grand Cru, exceptional even in challenging vintages】
