🏰 The 2011 white Burgundy vintage, though challenging, produced wines with wonderful purity, expressiveness, and aromatic appeal, particularly from careful vignerons. Des Comtes Lafon's Montrachet Grand Cru from 2011 is expected to embody this elegance, offering a balanced and charming profile. The vintage is characterized by a slimness and immediate drinking appeal, with moderate acidity and clear terroir expression. While not built for extreme long-term cellaring, the 2011 whites have gained stature and flesh, celebrating a seductive whisper rather than a shout. Top producers achieved brilliant clarity of terroir expression. 【 Elegant and pure Grand Cru from a charming, expressive vintage 】
🍴 A Montrachet Grand Cru of this caliber deserves exquisite pairings. Think roasted turbot with beurre blanc, pan-seared foie gras, or a delicate truffle pasta. For an Eastern pairing, consider abalone in superior broth or a refined bird's nest soup.
🥂 This is a wine for truly special occasions, such as a significant anniversary, a high-profile corporate event, or a gathering of serious white Burgundy collectors.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
