FEATURES
🏰 The 2004 vintage in Bordeaux was considered a good, classic vintage, especially for the Left Bank, producing wines with good structure and freshness, suitable for aging. Château Léoville Poyferré, a Second Growth from Saint-Julien, is known for its powerful yet elegant style. While specific 2004 tasting notes were not directly found, wines from this estate typically exhibit dark fruit, cassis, cedar, and tobacco notes, with firm tannins and a long finish. The 2004 vintage would likely show a more savory, classic Bordeaux profile, with good aging potential. 【 聖朱利安二級莊的經典年份,展現優雅與陳年潛力 】 🍴 This red Bordeaux would be an excellent match for roasted lamb, beef Wellington, duck confit, or aged hard cheeses. 🥂 Perfect for a formal dinner, a significant anniversary, or a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Decanting for 1-2 hours would be beneficial to allow the wine to open up and soften its tannins, especially given its age and structure.
BACKGROUND
Château Léoville Poyferré is an estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Médoc. It was rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and was traditionally the softest of the three Léovilles. The 80-hectare (198-acre) vineyard is planted 65 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon with 25 percent Merlot, 8 percent Petit Verdot and 2 percent Cabernet Franc. The gravelly soils provide good drainage for the vines, which helps negate disease pressure and leads to concentrated fruit. In the winery, the grapes are cold-macerated for colour extract and aromatic purity, and fermented in stainless steel vats before aging. Château Léoville Poyferré is aged in oak barriques for 18 to 20 months, and the proportion of new oak has increases in the last few decades.
