🏰 The 2008 Henri Boillot Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru is a 【complex and age-worthy Burgundy from a connoisseurs' vintage】, known for its fine, noble reds. Despite a challenging spring, the 2008 vintage in Burgundy yielded concentrated wines, and Boillot's low crop levels for this Premier Cru (18 hl/ha) further enhance its intensity. This deep ruby-red wine offers an attractive bouquet of ripe red cherry, mulberry, tea leaf, and mushroom, alongside black cherry, licorice, and peppery spices. While some notes suggest a strict, linear, or closed palate initially, others describe a sweet, supple, and nicely concentrated wine with lovely black cherry fruit and fine-grained tannins, evolving into a muscular and brooding character with decanting.
🍴 This elegant Pinot Noir is a versatile food companion. It pairs beautifully with roasted duck, game birds, suckling pig, and knuckle of veal. It also complements white meats, poultry, braised pork shoulder, mushroom risotto, and mature cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a special dinner, particularly with game or roasted poultry, or for patient collectors who appreciate the evolution of complex Burgundy. This wine may benefit from decanting to allow its nuanced aromas and flavors to fully unfold.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Henri Boillot is a wine producer based in Meursault, France, is renowned for its red and white wines from Côtes de Beaune appellations. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the primary grape varieties featured. The estate was named Domaine Jean Boillot until 2005, but was changed when Henri Boillot bought out his siblings in order to distinguish it from his brother's new Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot. Henri had previously set up Maison Henri Boillot for négociant wines and retains these labels to distinguish them from estate wines.
