FEATURES
🏰 The 2004 vintage in Burgundy was a challenging one, marked by a cold, wet summer and issues like hail and rot, particularly affecting Pinot Noir. However, a fine September helped ripen surviving grapes. While initial reports were disparaging for reds, some producers crafted wines with good power and pretty red fruit, offering freshness. The best examples of red Burgundy from 2004 tend to come from the Côte de Nuits. This Georges Mugneret Gibourg Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru 2004, from a top producer, is expected to showcase a more elegant and lively Pinot Noir style, with the green and vegetal notes that sometimes characterized the vintage diminishing with age. It's a vintage that has improved over time, now offering appealing drinking. 🍴 This elegant red Burgundy, with its evolving character, would be superb with roasted game birds like duck or pheasant, pan-seared foie gras, or a classic coq au vin. For a lighter touch, consider mushroom risotto or aged Comté cheese. 🥂 This wine is perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a quiet evening of contemplation. Given its age, it's a fantastic choice for a special occasion celebrating a milestone from 2004. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Decanting for 30-60 minutes is recommended to allow the wine to open up and any sediment to settle. Be mindful of the cork and capsule on older bottles.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is a French producer of high-quality Pinot Noir located in the Côte de Nuits, famous for its wines from Burgundy's most popular vineyards. The winery was founded in 1933, and in the 1950s small plots of land were purchased to expand the family's vineyards. Incorporated in 2009 as Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The most rare and expensive wines of the winery come from the Grand Cru vineyards Ruchottes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Echézeaux, and it also produces Burgundy red wine from multiple Premier Cru vineyards.
