🏰 The 2005 vintage in Northern Rhône was exceptional, with ideal balance between summer's gentle heat and autumn's chill, leading to wines of formidable expression. E. Guigal's Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2005 is considered an 'utterly profound' wine, often compared to other legendary vintages. It's 100% Syrah from pure schist soils, known for being the densest, most concentrated, masculine, and tannic of Guigal's famous 'LaLaLa' trilogy. Tasting notes describe it as inky coloured, structured, and massively concentrated, with classic dark fruits, liquorice, roasted notes, oriental spices, tapenade, and meatiness. Despite its age, it's still considered an infant, requiring several more years to fully develop and possessing a potential to age for 50+ years. 【Utterly profound, 50+ year ageing potential】.
🍴 This powerful and concentrated La Landonne demands equally robust food pairings. Think slow-braised lamb shank, rich beef stew, venison with a berry reduction, or strong, aged hard cheeses. Its intensity can also stand up to game birds like pheasant or duck.
🥂 This is a wine for serious collectors and special occasions, such as a significant anniversary, a grand celebration, or a dedicated tasting session to appreciate its monumental structure and evolving complexity.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
