Denis Mortet, Gevrey-chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru, 2014
🏰【From the highly respected Denis Mortet estate】, the Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru 2014 is a powerful and intense red Burgundy. While specific tasting notes for this particular wine are not widely available, Denis Mortet is celebrated for crafting Gevrey-Chambertin wines of remarkable concentration, dark fruit intensity, and a distinctive earthy minerality. The 2014 Burgundy vintage was generally very good, producing elegant and fresh red wines with good structure. Expect a deeply colored red with intense aromas of black cherry, cassis, and a hint of violet, complemented by notes of licorice, forest floor, and a firm mineral backbone. The palate should be full-bodied with muscular tannins and a long, persistent finish that will benefit from further cellaring.
🍴 This commanding red Burgundy is an excellent match for roasted game meats, braised beef, or rich mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with strong, aged cheeses.
🥂 An impressive wine for a formal dinner, a Burgundy tasting, or a special occasion that calls for a wine with significant presence and aging potential.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Denis Mortet is located in northern Burgundy and is famous for producing high-quality Pinot Noir wine. It is produced in a modern style and has a delicate taste. The domaine currently occupies 11.2 hectares (27 acres) and has also purchased part of the Le Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard. The winery was founded in 1956 when Charles Mortet purchased a hectare of vineyard and began selling fruit to merchants. Mortet's son Denis and his wife Laurence started working at the estate in 1978 and took over and established Domaine Denis Mortet in the early 1990s.
