🏰 The 1920 Chateau Sigalas Rabaud is an incredibly rare and historic Sauternes, a Premier Cru Classé from the 1855 classification and the smallest of its kind. This sweet white Bordeaux, with its Semillon-dominant blend, offers a truly unique opportunity to taste a century of evolution. Expect a wine with 【profound complexity, layers of dried apricot, marmalade, saffron, and exotic spices, with a vibrant acidity that defies its age】.
🍴 Cantonese food pairing: The legendary match is foie gras. Also exquisite with blue cheeses like Roquefort, or fruit-based desserts (avoiding chocolate). For a local twist, try with almond cookies or a delicate bird's nest soup.
🥂 Fit for event: A once-in-a-lifetime tasting experience, a truly monumental anniversary, or a collector's showcase.
Kindly reminder: For wines of this extreme age, expect significant natural sediment. Decanting is essential, and extreme care should be taken with the fragile cork and capsule.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Sigalas Rabaud takes its name from the two original owners of the estate, the Rabaud family, who owned the property prior to 1660 and the Sigalas family, who purchased the property in 1864. The 14 hectare Sauternes vineyard of Sigalas Rabaud, located in the commune of Bomme is planted to 98% Semillon and 2% Sauvignon Blanc. This represents a large reduction in the amount of Sauvignon Blanc previously planted in their vineyards. On average, the vines are 45 years of age. The terroir of Sigalas Rabaud consists of sand, gravel and clay soils.
