FEATURES
🏰 The 2001 Chateau Bahans Haut Brion, the esteemed second wine of First Growth Chateau Haut-Brion, has magnificently unfurled its potential after two decades, embodying a legacy of liquid elegance. The 2001 vintage in Pessac-Léognan was blessed with amiable conditions, yielding grapes that bespoke balance and refinement. This mature red Bordeaux reveals a rich bouquet where blackberry and cassis flirt with earthy undertones and whispers of tobacco. On the palate, integrated tannins caress like velvet, offering notes of cedar, red and black currants, with hints of violets, mocha, and bitter chocolate. It presents a sophisticated, medium-bodied profile with admirable length. 🍴 This evolved Bordeaux red is a superb match for classic French and hearty dishes. Pair it with charcoal-grilled lamb chops, duck magret, or a standing rib roast. It also complements grilled, roasted, or stewed beef, pork, veal, and game dishes. Earthy components like mushrooms and smoked cheeses will enhance its character. Consider it with cheeses such as Saint-Nectaire or even some Asian dishes like tuna. 🥂 This wine is drinking beautifully now, showcasing its peak evolution, and can hold for several more years. It's a compulsory due diligence for connoisseurs seeking finesse-filled investments. Decanting for about an hour before serving is recommended to allow its complex aromas to fully open. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F) to best appreciate its evolved character, and be mindful of older corks and potential sediment.
It is a full-bodied red wine from Bordeaux, France, with rich flavors of dark fruits, spices, and a hint of oak, complemented by a long, satisfying finish.
BACKGROUND
Château Haut-Brion is the oldest of Bordeaux's five first growths, and one of the most famous wines in the world. Located in Pessac-Léognan, south of the city of Bordeaux, France. The majority of the estate's 51 hectares (126 acres) of vineyard is planted to red varieties with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot covering 48 hectares (118 acres) while three hectares (7.5 acres) are given over to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The vineyards were established in the 1530s by the Pontac family, changing hands several times throughout the ensuing centuries. Historical evidence shows that Haut-Brion was drunk by King Charles II and Thomas Jefferson, and the famous London diarist Samuel Pepys was also a fan of the wine.
