Bouchard Pere & Fils, Beaune Clos De La Mousse 1er Cru, 2017
🏰 The 2017 Bouchard Père & Fils Beaune Clos de la Mousse 1er Cru is a testament to a challenging yet rewarding vintage in Burgundy. Despite facing frost, heatwaves, and storms, the year ultimately produced wines with soft tannins, abundant fruit, and a clear expression of terroir. This red Pinot Noir, from a vineyard owned by Bouchard Père & Fils since 1872, is a 【 Monopole Premier Cru, a vineyard wholly controlled by a single winery 】. It presents an aromatic, violet-scented profile, with unique notes of tile, stone, iodine, strawberry, and dried-berry character. On the palate, it's full-to medium-bodied with creamy yet firm tannins, offering a flavorful finish and hints of seaweed and dried earth. Reviewers also note ripe, juicy cherry fruits, and a pure, juicy character with raspberry and cherry leading the way. While enjoyable now, it has good aging potential and is expected to develop further after 2024.
🍴 This versatile red Burgundy pairs beautifully with a range of dishes. Consider classic pairings like grilled poultry or white meat dishes. It also complements duck, game birds, and even specific cheeses like Époisses de Bourgogne and Comté.
🥂 Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a special gathering where a food-friendly and elegant red wine is desired. Its complexity and aging potential also make it an excellent choice for cellaring and enjoying on a future milestone occasion.
