🏰The 2021 Launay Horiot Chambertin Grand Cru is a very refined and almost understated Chambertin, showcasing impressive length and potential. The 2021 Burgundy vintage, particularly for this Grand Cru, presents a strict, stony, and quite austere nose, with fruit that is tightly coiled and will require time to unfold. This Pinot Noir offers a refined bouquet of pure red berry fruit, hints of clove, and crushed stone, unfurling with each swirl. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe cherries and fresh raspberry, superb length, and much gentler tannins, promising fine potential and pleasing freshness.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic dishes like roast duck, roasted lamb, or mushroom-based preparations such as coq au vin. Its refined character also makes it an excellent match for delicate game birds.
🥂 An exceptional wine perfect for any occasion, this Chambertin Grand Cru will require time to unfold its full complexity. It is recommended to drink from 2028-2036, making it an ideal candidate for cellaring for a few more years before enjoying at a special gathering.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Launay-Horiot is a wine producer based in the village of Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. It makes a range of Pinot Noir based wines from the Pommard and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations, the latter further north in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine covers around four hectares (10 acres) of vineyard although prior to an inheritance dispute in the early 2000s, the wider family holdings covered over 10 hectares (25 acres). The domaine is overseen by former fighter pilot Xavier Horiot.
