🏰 The 1983 vintage in Bordeaux was generally good, and Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge from Pessac-Leognan, if well-stored, can offer a 【beautifully aged expression of a classic Left Bank Bordeaux】. Expect a mature bouquet of dried dark fruits, tobacco, cedar, and earthy notes, with a palate that is likely soft, elegant, and still showing a hint of its original structure.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux red pairs wonderfully with roasted game birds, slow-cooked beef dishes, or aged hard cheeses. For an Asian pairing, consider a rich Cantonese braised pigeon or a savory mushroom hotpot.
🥂 Ideal for a contemplative tasting, a special anniversary, or a gathering of seasoned wine lovers. Be mindful that older vintages may have fragile corks and sediment, so careful handling and decanting are recommended.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte is located in Pessac Legonan on the left bank of the west tributary of the Gironde River.Smith Haut Lafitte makes both a red and white grand vin. Merlot is the dominant variety in the red blend, which also includes Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is aged for 16-28 months depending on the vintage. The white grand vin is usually Sauvignon Blanc-dominant, and is aged on its lees for a year. The second wines are named Les Hauts de Smith.
