FEATURES
🏰 The 2021 vintage in Bandol was a challenging year for French winegrowers, yet Domaine Tempier in Bandol was relatively spared, despite experiencing a significant drought. The growing season saw a mild winter, followed by a frost in April, and insufficient rain for water reserves. However, cool nights in July and August led to fine maturities. The harvest was less abundant than previous years, down 20-25%, but better than initially feared. The wines from this vintage are noted for intense colors, good acidity, and an aromatic profile reminiscent of the 1990s, 2008, and 2013 vintages, with lower alcohol percentages, suggesting a fine potential for aging. 【 Aromatic wine with nice acidities that indicate a fine potential for aging 】
🍴 This Bandol red, with its powerful and concentrated profile, would pair beautifully with grilled and braised meats. Consider a hearty beef bourguignon, slow-cooked lamb shanks, or a robust venison stew. For a Mediterranean touch, try it with grilled tuna steaks or a rich ratatouille.
🥂 This wine is perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory meal, or a special occasion where a full-bodied red is desired. Its aging potential also makes it an excellent candidate for cellaring and enjoying in the years to come.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Tempier is the most iconic estate in the Bandol appellation of Provence, France. The Peyraud family has been instrumental in establishing the reputation of Bandol and its primary grape, Mourvedre. 'La Migoua' is one of their single-vineyard cuvees, characterized by a complex geological fault line that mixes various soils. This wine typically has a slightly lower percentage of Mourvedre compared to their other crus, resulting in a more approachable, aromatic, and wild expression, with notes of garrigue, dark berries, and earth.
