🏰 The 1994 Jean Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Boudriotte Rouge 1er Cru represents a mature expression from a renowned Burgundy producer. While Chassagne-Montrachet is primarily known for its white wines, this 'Rouge' (red) 1er Cru offers a unique opportunity to experience Ramonet's craftsmanship with Pinot Noir from this esteemed appellation. Information on specific vintage reports for 1994 Burgundy reds from this particular vineyard is scarce, but generally, 1994 was a challenging vintage in Burgundy, yet talented producers could craft elegant wines. At nearly 30 years old, this wine would have evolved significantly, showcasing tertiary aromas and a softened structure. 【 A rare red 1er Cru from a white wine stronghold, showcasing Ramonet's Pinot Noir artistry. 】
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: A mature red Burgundy like this would be exquisite with roasted game birds such as pheasant or duck, mushroom-based dishes like truffle risotto, or delicate beef preparations like beef bourguignon. For an Eastern pairing, consider a refined Cantonese roasted pigeon or a delicate braised mushroom dish.
🥂 Event suggestions: This is a wine for a contemplative evening, a special anniversary, or a gathering of serious Burgundy lovers. Given its age, handle with care. Stand the bottle upright for a day or two before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is recommended for an hour or two to allow the wine to open up and shed any bottle-sickness, but be mindful of its fragility. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Burgundy glasses to appreciate its complex aromatics.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Ramonet is a prominent wine producer in the Burgundy appellations of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, France. Ramonet owns more than 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small amount of Pinot Noir also planted. The estate's most important wines are made from Chardonnay from the area's grand cru vineyards, and are highly collectible, often selling for high prices at auction. Domaine Ramonet makes several red wines from Pinot Noir as well. Domaine Ramonet is now run by Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet, following the death of their father Pierre in the mid-1990s.
