🏰 The 2017 vintage in the Northern Rhône was generally very good, considered a "vintage for the cellar." A mild winter and early flowering led to an early harvest. Hot temperatures and extreme drought resulted in a smaller but high-quality harvest, yielding concentrated, long-lived red wines that are very ripe but not jammy. Marc Sorrel's Hermitage Le Greal 2017 is described as inky ruby, with intensely perfumed aromas of black and blue fruit liqueur, exotic spices, olive, and potpourri, energized by a smoky mineral nuance. The palate is juicy, expansive, and impressively concentrated with boysenberry and cherry preserve flavors, complemented by notes of candied violet, licorice, and bitter chocolate. It finishes with a strikingly long, penetrating finish and building tannins. 【A concentrated, long-lived red wine from a very good vintage, offering intense black and blue fruit aromas and a complex, spicy profile.】
🍴 This powerful Hermitage pairs exceptionally well with strong dishes such as roasted or grilled red meats, game, and flavorful, aged cheeses. It also complements rich stews and braised dishes.
🥂 The 2017 Marc Sorrel Hermitage Le Greal is a wine built for the long haul, demanding patience but promising to reward with complex and commanding flavors. It is long-lasting, traditional, and serious, with impressive length and significant potential for aging, making it ideal for a grand dinner or a special occasion in the years to come.
