🏰 The 2011 Jean Louis Chave Hermitage Rouge is a truly sexy and flamboyant wine that has drunk exceptionally well since its release, showcasing the classic minerality of the Bessards lieu-dit. This Syrah boasts a deep ruby/purple color, followed by tons of sweet 【crème de cassis, peppery spice, and sun-dried flowers】. It offers fabulous concentration, sweet tannin, and a seamless texture. Expect a grippy, mouthwatering style with solid, briary tannins inlaid with finely beaded acidity, all melding into a core of 【anise, blackberry paste, and fig sauce flavors】. It also develops lovely aromas of 【leather, cured meat, redcurrants, and black olives】, with a rich, velvety feel on the finish.
🍴 This powerful Hermitage is an ideal partner for roasted lamb with rosemary, grilled beef tenderloin, or rich game dishes like venison stew. Hard, aged cheeses such as Comté or Pecorino would also be a superb match.
🥂 A brilliant wine for any occasion, capable of being enjoyed now or cellared for decades, making it perfect for a serious wine dinner or a special celebration.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a powerful wine producer headquartered in the village of Mauves in the Saint-Joseph region, across the Rhone River from Hermitage. It owns about 14.5 hectares (36 acres) of land and grapes. The terraced estate now covers eight different plots on the hill, providing a range of mesoclimates and terroirs for Chave wines. Many of the vines are between 30 and 60 years old.
