🏰The 1998 Domaine Leroy Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a 【highly-rated Burgundy from a legendary producer】, known for its intensity and complexity. The 1998 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered good, producing wines with concentration and freshness. This particular wine has received high praise, with scores up to 96 points. Tasting notes describe it as having a murky color, with an interesting nose of spice, earth, thyme, and strawberry, leading to tart cherries and cranberry on the finish. Other notes mention dark and brooding characteristics with cardboard, cough syrup, and cherry, or musk and mushroom with strong fruit flavors. It's noted for its richness, opulence, and fine balance.
🍴 This exquisite Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with classic Burgundian dishes such as coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon. It's also an excellent match for roasted duck, goose, and other game birds. Consider pairing it with truffle-infused dishes or mature, earthy cheeses.
🥂 This Grand Cru is perfect for a significant celebration, a serious wine tasting, or a luxurious dinner where the wine is the star. Given its age, it's likely at its peak or entering a beautiful mature phase. A gentle decant for 30-60 minutes is recommended to allow it to fully express its aromas and flavors, but be cautious with older corks. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
