🏰 The 2022 vintage in the Douro Valley presented extreme challenges, with the months leading up to harvest being among the hottest and driest on record. Despite these unprecedented conditions, the viticultural and winemaking teams at Quinta do Vesuvio responded impeccably, and the resilient indigenous Douro vines performed astonishingly well, yielding concentrated grapes with remarkable purity of fruit. This led several leading Port houses, including Quinta do Vesuvio, to declare 2022 as a Vintage Port year. The Capela do Vesúvio Vintage Port is a rare, limited-edition bottling, only the fifth of its kind, crafted from three exceptional micro-terroirs within the estate, including 100-year-old vines. These micro-terroirs include 100-year-old vines in Vinha da Capela, shaded vines in Escola vineyard, and half-century-old Touriga Franca in Vale da Teja. The grapes are traditionally foot-trodden in granite lagares, contributing to its profound complexity and powerful structure. The wine exhibits an intense deep purple hue. Its immensely complex bouquet offers aromas of schist dust, lavender, rockrose, dark fruits, cedar, and peppery spice, evolving into notes of black tea, crushed grapes, and mahogany. On the palate, it is compact and voluminous, with grainy, peppery tannins and a powerful, taut structure. Intense and fresh, it's laced with black fruit and hints of dark chocolate, culminating in a long, seductive finish of tea and tobacco. 【A rare, limited-edition Vintage Port from Quinta do Vesuvio's exceptional micro-terroirs, showcasing remarkable purity and concentration from a challenging yet triumphant 2022 Douro vintage.】
🍴 Vintage Ports are traditionally enjoyed as an after-meal drink. This Capela Vintage Port is an exquisite pairing with a selection of fine cheeses such as Stilton or Gorgonzola, or other blue cheeses. It also harmonizes beautifully with chocolate and caramel desserts, or dried fruits. For a more adventurous culinary experience, a young Vintage Port can even be paired with a Steak au Poivre.
🥂 This is a truly special Port, a celebratory wine often reserved for significant occasions. While it can be enjoyed young for its fruit-driven style, it is built for the long haul and will age superbly over many decades, with its optimal drinking window suggested from 2032 onwards. Serve between 17-18°C (63-64°F) and decanting is recommended to allow its full aromatic spectrum to unfold. Store the bottle on its side in a cool, dry, and dark place.
