FEATURES
🏰 The 1988 Chateau Leoville Las Cases is a testament to the estate's enduring quality, a "dark horse" vintage that has evolved into a 【complex, youthful, and wonderfully drinking Saint-Julien】. Despite a challenging 1988 Bordeaux vintage with a wet spring and uneven ripening, Leoville Las Cases produced a wine that has shown remarkable longevity and complexity, often surpassing more renowned vintages. It's celebrated for its structure and ability to age gracefully.
Tasting notes reveal a garnet hue with brick highlights, and a complex nose dominated by notes of blackcurrant, candied black fruits, cedar, sandalwood, Cuban tobacco, graphite, dried cherries, rose oil, and cigar box. The palate is velvety, medium-bodied, with fully integrated, silky tannins and lively acidity, leading to a long finish with mineral notes and exotic spices. It offers earthy, brambled notes of blackberry, tomato leaf, undergrowth, raspberry, saffron, and crushed mint leaf.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux is an ideal match for roast leg of lamb, venison stew with mushrooms, braised beef, or aged cheeses like Comté or Parmigiano-Reggiano. It also pairs beautifully with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, and mushrooms. Consider it with beef brisket or pork tenderloin.
🥂 Perfect for a milestone anniversary, a significant birthday, or a serious tasting among collectors. It is drinking wonderfully now and will continue to evolve until around 2040.
Serving an older vintage like this requires care. The cork and capsule may be fragile, so a Durand opener or similar tool is recommended. Stand the bottle upright for several days to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently one hour before serving to separate the wine from its natural sediment and allow its complex aromas to fully open. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F).
