Franz Keller, Enselberg Jechtinger Spatburgunder Gg, 2022
🏰The 2022 Franz Keller Enselberg Jechtinger Spätburgunder, though previously classified as Grosses Gewächs, is now strategically repositioned as Erste Gewächs (1G), offering an elegant expression of Baden Pinot Noir. This vintage benefited from an "unprecedently warm summer" in Germany, contributing to its vibrant character.
This wine showcases a precise, medium cherry red color with brilliant transparency. On the nose, expect 【intense cherry fruit, dark forest berries, plum, fine notes of foliage and undergrowth with a light smoky flavor】. The palate is juicy with savory acidity, spicy tannins, and a silky mouthfeel, revealing a lively structure and pleasant tension. It's a German Pinot on a whole other level, with notes of pomegranate, spice, roast pepper, and earthy undertones, evolving to black tea and intensifying spices like cumin and garam masala with time.
🍴 Its elegance and structure make it ideal for fine dining. Pair it exquisitely with wild fowl, particularly squab with wild mushrooms, saddle of veal with reduced jus, or a truffled risotto. It also complements pork dishes beautifully.
🥂 This youthful Spätburgunder is approachable now but promises considerable aging potential, making it a superb choice for special occasions or as a sophisticated addition to your cellar. Serve at a cool room temperature, around 14-16°C, to highlight its delicate fruit and complex spice notes.
