🏰 The René Engel Vosne Romanée 1999 is a magnificent red 布根地 (Burgundy) from an exceptional vintage, widely regarded as one of the best for red Burgundy in recent decades. The 1999 vintage produced wines with great concentration, structure, and remarkable longevity, many of which are still drinking beautifully today. Vosne Romanée is celebrated for its unparalleled elegance, perfume, and silky texture, often referred to as the 'velvet glove' of Burgundy. This wine, now over two decades old, will have evolved beautifully, offering complex aromas of dried red berries, violets, exotic spices, and a captivating forest floor earthiness. It embodies the finesse and profound depth that only a well-aged Vosne Romanée from a great vintage can provide. 【An exquisite Vosne Romanée from a legendary Burgundy vintage, offering exceptional elegance and mature complexity】.
🍴 This mature Vosne Romanée is a sublime pairing for refined dishes. Consider roasted duck breast with a cherry reduction, truffle-infused poultry, delicate game birds like squab or pheasant, or mushroom-based sauces. It also complements aged, earthy cheeses beautifully.
🥂 This wine is perfectly suited for a very special occasion, a celebratory dinner with close friends, or a contemplative tasting for serious Burgundy connoisseurs. Given its age, handle with care. Old corks can be fragile, so a Durand opener or similar device is highly recommended. Decanting for 30-60 minutes before serving can help separate any sediment and allow the wine's delicate, evolved aromas to fully express themselves, but be cautious not to over-decant, as very old wines can lose their subtle nuances quickly. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine René Engel was a Burgundy producer known for making some of the top examples of Pinot Noir in Vosne-Romanée, France. The domaine remained in the Engel family for three generations until the death of Philippe Engel in 2005. The domaine's vineyard holdings spanned a total of around six hectares. In 2006, René Engel's vineyard holdings were purchased by François Pinault, owner of the renowned Château Latour, and Domaine d'Eugenie was formed.
