FEATURES
🏰【A rare and highly coveted wine from the legendary, retired producer Jacky Truchot, the 1994 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru offers a unique historical tasting experience from a bygone era of Burgundy winemaking.】 Truchot's wines are known for their old-school Burgundy style, with his Charmes Chambertin vines planted in 1920. While 1994 was a challenging vintage in Burgundy with heavy rains, Grand Cru vineyards on well-draining slopes generally fared better, and Truchot's traditional winemaking (100% destemmed, no cold soaking, minimal new oak) aimed to preserve purity. Wines from Charmes-Chambertin typically offer aromas of ripe red berries, floral notes (like rose petals), and earthy spice, with a silky texture and moderate tannins. The 1994 vintage generally produced wines with an attractive, fragrant style of fruit, though sometimes with lighter colors and a dryness on the mid-palate. Expect a fragrant bouquet of black cherry, licorice, and spice, with a seamless tannin texture, cassis, and small red fruit flavor notes on the palate. Some tasters note dusky red fruit, leather, kelp, subtle ferrous notes, impressive grip, candied orange peel, dark berry, cola, allspice, undergrowth, a dab of menthol, and white pepper. 🍴 This rare Grand Cru pairs well with classic Pinot Noir dishes such as duck, goose, game birds, grilled chicken in red wine sauce, roast lamb, glazed poultry, and rib steak. It also complements soft cheeses like burrata, camembert, chevra, and gorgonzola. 🥂 A truly special and rare bottle for serious Burgundy collectors, this wine is ideal for a contemplative tasting or a very intimate, significant celebration, offering a glimpse into the work of a legendary vigneron. Serving Suggestion: This 1994 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru from the legendary Jacky Truchot is a rare gem, a testament to a bygone era of Burgundy winemaking. Given its age and the producer's cult status, this bottle offers a unique historical tasting experience. Expect delicate, evolved aromas and a graceful palate. Handle with extreme care, as the cork and capsule will be fragile. Decant gently for a very short period (15-30 minutes) only if necessary to remove sediment, being cautious to preserve its delicate aromatics. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in fine Burgundy glasses to fully appreciate its subtle complexities.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jacky Truchot-Martin is a now defunct wine producer formerly based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, France, crafting a range of minimal-intervention Pinot Noir wines from local vineyards. Bottles of his wines (which are increasingly rare) are much sought-after on the secondary market. Truchot made wines at the domaine until his retirement in 2005. He sold off all his holdings except for a small portion of his vines in Clos Sorbés, near his home in Morey, for his own production and consumption.
