FEATURES
🏰 The 1949 Baron de Brane from Château Brane-Cantenac is an incredibly rare and historic bottle, representing a truly exceptional vintage for Bordeaux. The 1949 vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest of the 20th century, producing wines of immense concentration, structure, and longevity. This second wine of a Margaux Second Growth would, if well-preserved, offer a profound journey into the past. Expect an aromatic tapestry of dried fruits, exotic spices, leather, tobacco, and earthy notes, with any remaining fruit likely taking on a candied or ethereal quality. The palate would be remarkably complex, with fully integrated tannins and a lingering, nuanced finish. 【A legendary Bordeaux vintage from a historic estate】. The sheer age of this wine makes its survival a marvel, and its condition will be the primary determinant of its enjoyment. The cork and capsule are extremely important for such an old bottle. 🥂 This is a wine for an unparalleled, once-in-a-lifetime celebration, perhaps a diamond anniversary or a significant historical commemoration. It's a collector's dream and a true piece of liquid history. Serving advice: This wine demands the utmost reverence and care. Stand the bottle upright for at least two weeks, or even a month, to allow any substantial sediment to settle completely. Decant with extreme gentleness and precision, using a bright light source to monitor for sediment. Decant immediately before serving, as wines of this age can be very fragile and may fade rapidly upon exposure to air. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 16°C (60°F), in appropriate glassware to appreciate its delicate aromas. 🍴 If the wine is still showing vitality, pair it with very delicate and simple preparations of roasted game birds, a classic truffle dish, or simply enjoy it on its own to savor its historical essence. Avoid overpowering flavors.
BACKGROUND
Château Brane-Cantenac is located in the Bordeaux commune of Margaux, on the left bank of the Gironde. It was founded in the 18th Century by the Gorce family and ranked as a second growth in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc and Graves. The estate has 75 hectares (185 acres) of vineyards, 15ha (37 acres) of which sit behind the château itself and are used to produce the Brane-Cantenac grand vin. There is also a vineyard, Notton, on a high gravel plateau above the château, which produces Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the best of which is also included in the grand vin blend.
