Meo Camuzet, Vosne Romanee Les Chaumes 1er Cru, 2000
🏰 The 2000 vintage for red Burgundy was generally good, with many wines offering glorious balance and often compared to 2017 for its subtle charm and finesse. It's an underrated vintage that has aged better than expected and continues to give pleasure. The Méo-Camuzet Vosne Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru 2000 is a testament to this, offering a deep, bright red color. On the nose, you'll find pretty aromas of redcurrant, smoke, and flowers, alongside candied blood oranges and black cherries. The palate delivers a terrific mouthfeel, dense, lush, and medium-bodied, coating the palate with coffee-laced red cherries. It's a suave, sensual wine with a finish packed with dark cherries, showcasing a classic silky texture and delicious, rich dark cherry fruit with notes of Vosne spice. 【Liquid suede texture with coffee-laced red cherries and Vosne spice】.
🍴 This mature and elegant Burgundy is a superb match for roasted lamb with herbs, rich duck confit, truffle pasta, or aged cheeses like Comté or Époisses. Its complexity can also stand up to dishes featuring earthy mushrooms.
🥂 Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with fellow wine enthusiasts, or a romantic evening where a contemplative and beautifully aged wine is desired. It's a perfect choice for showcasing the evolution of fine Pinot Noir.
Serving Advice: For a wine of this age, handle with care. Stand the bottle upright for at least 24-48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Use a Durand or an Ah-So opener for the potentially fragile cork. Decanting is recommended for about 30-60 minutes to allow the wine to open up and shed any reductive notes, but be mindful of its age and stop if it seems to fade. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
Domaine Meo-Camuzet is located in the village of Vosne-Romanee, France. The estate employs organic fertilizers and advanced cultivation techniques to maintain ecological balance in the vineyards. Coupled with the exceptional terroir and the legacy of Henri Jayer, Jean-Nicholas' efforts have elevated the estate to a top-tier winery in just a few decades. In 2003, Jean-Nicholas founded the négociant business Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs. Although the grapes are purchased, the team personally supervises the vineyards to ensure the quality of the grape sources.
