🏰 【The 2000 Henri Bonneau Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Marie Beurrier is a tremendously well-balanced and complex wine, showcasing the unique, old-school winemaking philosophy of Henri Bonneau, a legend of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.】 Henri Bonneau was the 12th generation to produce Chateauneuf du Pape, known for his traditional methods and belief in extended aging in old oak. The Cuvée Marie Beurrier is named after Henri's wife's aunt, a superb cook, and is usually a richly flavored, dense, complex wine. The 2000 vintage is considered a good year for Chateauneuf du Pape.
This wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core. On the nose, it is developing, with layered notes of dark brambles, black cherry, garrigue, dried red flowers, beef stew with vegetables, and mixed inorganic earth. The palate is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid, packed with layers of ripe Grenache. Expect animal scents, grilled steak, kirsch, earth, fresh cracked pepper, and a long finish.
🍴 Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised, stewed, and grilled dishes, sausage, cassoulet, eggplant, and tomatoes. Also good with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and cheese. Specific suggestions include rabbit with prunes, bison, beef bourguignon, navarin or lamb sauté, porcini mushrooms, grilled oyster mushrooms, and Roquefort cheese.
🥂 An exceptional wine for a grand dinner, a special celebration, or a contemplative tasting, offering a profound experience of a mature Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is drinking beautifully now and can continue to evolve through 2040.
