FEATURES
🏰 The 1989 vintage for red Burgundy was generally very good, characterized by a mild winter and spring, followed by a hot, dry July and a warm September harvest. This resulted in ripe, rich, and generous grapes, yielding wines with slightly higher alcohol, lower acidity, and softer tannins. While some top estates from this vintage are still drinking well, many wines are past their peak. Drouhin Laroze's Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru, from one of France's oldest wine-growing regions first mentioned in 640 AD, offers a complex palette of red fruit and floral aromas, often enhanced by a delicate touch of oak. On the palate, expect a round, rich, and elegant wine with attractive liveliness and distinguished tannins, leading to a generous, dense, and finesse-driven finish. 【One of France's oldest wine-growing regions, first mentioned in 640 AD as property of the Abbey of Bèze.】 This 1989 vintage is a mature wine, offering a delicate and evolved profile. Old corks and capsules can be fragile, so handle with care. Stand the bottle upright for a few days before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is recommended for 1-2 hours to allow the wine to breathe and separate from sediment, but be mindful of its age; very old wines can sometimes fade quickly after decanting. Serve at 15-17°C (59-63°F). 🍴 Ideal with red meats, big game, and ripe or full-flavoured cheeses. Complex dishes like chicken in red wine sauce or roast lamb in gravy are excellent pairings. Also consider feathered game such as quail or duck, and mushrooms. 🥂 Perfect for a special occasion, a celebratory dinner, or a sophisticated gathering for wine connoisseurs who appreciate the nuances of aged Burgundy.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze is a wine producer based in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate mainly produces red wine from Burgundy's flagship grape variety, Pinot Noir. Representing a range of quality levels, from Grand Cru to "Country". Originating from the Gevrey vineyard acquired by viticulturist Jean-Baptiste Laroze in 1850, the domaine has been passed down through generations of the Laroze family and continued to expand with the marriage of Suzanne Laroze to Alexandre Drouhin in 1919. With 11.5 hectares (28.5 acres) of vineyards spread throughout Burgundy, it is run by the fifth and sixth generations of the family.
