FEATURES
🏰 The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux was challenging, yet Roc de Cambes, under the skilled hand of François Mitjavile, managed to produce an excellent wine, often bringing out the best in difficult years. This vintage is characterized by a lively, mid-weight, charming, and supple style. The temperate oceanic climate of the Côtes de Bourg region, with its maritime influences, ensures a slow and even ripening of the grapes, preserving their freshness and aromatic complexity. Roc de Cambes is often considered 【head and shoulders the best wine of the Côtes de Bourg appellation】. It exhibits aromas of dark berries, orange zest, espresso roast, smoked meats, and licorice. A very fragrant nose reveals redcurrant jelly, raspberry preserves, lavender, tilled soil, charcoal, and fallen leaves. The wine displays a deep purple color with garnet-black highlights, and notes of ripe dark fruit like blackcurrant, black cherries, blackberries, and blueberries, gradually giving way to sweet spices, blood orange zest, roasted coffee, licorice, violet, and cocoa. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a plush texture, earth-laced red fruit flavors, and a great length and harmony. It offers a velvety, silky texture, generous blackcurrant, cherry, and blueberry fruit, with fine, powdery, integrated tannins and refreshing acidity, leading to a long finish with a slightly saline note. Some tasters find concentrated bitter-licorice notes on the long finish, ending with chocolatey smoothness.
🥂 This superb Bordeaux is ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a special celebration, or as a gift for a discerning wine lover. It offers excellent aging potential, with peak maturity expected between 5-15 years after the vintage. Young vintages benefit from decanting for 1 to 1.5 hours to soften and open its perfume. Serve at 15.5°C (60°F) for optimal freshness.
🍴 Roc de Cambes pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, game such as venison or wild boar, and fine poultry like duck prepared with rich sauces. It's also excellent with classic meat dishes like veal, pork, beef, and lamb. Don't shy away from pairing it with Asian dishes, rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta. It's a perfect match for grilled rib of beef or duck confit, and even ceps à la bordelaise.
