🏰 The 2022 Dugat-Py Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is a delightful and impressive young Burgundy, showcasing the producer's ability to craft wines of immense concentration and elegance. This vintage, from a mix of 20+ and 90-year-old vines, is noted for its silky and ripe character, with fragrant blackberry and pomegranate fruit scented with liquorice and rose petals. While previous vintages were often described as 'massive' or 'imposing,' the 2022 offers an approachable texture with plenty of tannic grip that doesn't dominate, suggesting it should open up reasonably young. Expect intense aromas of damp tree bark, black tea, and black plums, with pliable, gently textured tannins and a lightning bolt of acidity providing bracing freshness.
🍴 This powerful yet elegant Grand Cru Pinot Noir is an excellent match for roasted duck, goose, or other game birds. It also pairs beautifully with roast white meats, meaty fish, or dishes with red sauces. Consider a truffle-infused chicken or a rich mushroom tart. For an Asian pairing, a delicate Cantonese roast pigeon or a refined Japanese wagyu beef dish would be sublime.
🥂 The 2022 Dugat-Py Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is perfect for a special occasion, a serious Burgundy tasting, or as a cellar investment for future enjoyment. While approachable in its youth, it has significant aging potential. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow its complex aromas and flavors to fully express themselves.
