Bruno Clavelier, Gevrey Chambertin Les Corbeaux 1er Cru, 2021
🏰 The 2021 Bruno Clavelier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux 1er Cru is a wine that benefits from the fresh air flow of the Lavaux valley, bringing balance, finesse, and an airy feel. The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was characterized by a lighter style, with yields down 30-40%, yet the wines are described as very pretty. This particular wine offers a very Gevrey-like nose with an array of wild red berries, earth, and a touch of forest floor. On the palate, it is succulent yet sleek and tension-filled, displaying excellent power on a firm, serious, and impressively long finish. Reviewers note its seductive bouquet of flowers and fruit, with a hint of Morello cherry, great precision, and a beautiful rendition. It's not a monster of material but extends with an exquisite tangy side.
🍴 This elegant Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru would be a superb match for classic Burgundian fare. Consider roasted game birds like duck or partridge, a delicate beef bourguignon, or even a mushroom and truffle risotto. Its earthy and red berry notes will complement dishes with similar profiles, such as pan-seared duck breast with a cherry reduction or a fine selection of aged, mild cheeses.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Bruno Clavelier is a wine producer located in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. The winery was first established here at the end of the 18th century and now covers multiple vineyards, as well as the Corton Grand Cru a little further afield. It is the winery's only grand cru, a 14-hectare (34-acre) vineyard. 0.3 hectares (0.7 acres) of land in the east vineyard. Nonetheless, the domaine owns a series of Premier Crus in Côte de Nuits.
