🏰Thierry Allemand's 2014 Cornas Reynard is a benchmark for Syrah, celebrated for its 【purity, intensity, and a captivating juxtaposition of power and elegance】. This wine, from older (40+) vines, offers a deeper set of spices and darker fruits, with a strong, stony perfume, licorice, dark plum, dark chocolate, and pepper. The palate delivers black raspberries, black cherries, crushed rocks, tapenade, and smoked meat nuances, all flowing to a concentrated yet elegant and vibrant style. It is precise, sharp, aerial, and concentrated, with tannins saturated in dark plum and blackberry flavor, and a tight, dark spicy finish.
🍴 This powerful Syrah is a wonderful match for the richest of Lyonnais fare and lamb dishes.
🥂 An exceptional wine for serious Syrah enthusiasts and collectors. While approachable now, it is built for the long haul and will truly shine from 2025 onwards, making it perfect for cellaring for future enjoyment. Decanting for several hours is highly recommended to allow its full complexity to unfold.
BACKGROUND
Thierry Allemand is a leading producer of wines from the Syrah grape in the Cornas region of the Northern Rhone Valley. Renowned for their varietal expression and velvety texture, the wines have a loyal following and the estate was formed by Alleman starting in the 1980s by purchasing large areas of small abandoned land. Less than 5 hectares (12 acres) in size. Only 500 cases of the top Les Chaillots and Reynard cuvées are available, always in short supply.
