🏰 The 2021 vintage in Rioja was officially classified as 'Very Good' by the DOCa Rioja Consejo Regulador, with many leading producers hailing it as one of the finest of the modern era. This vintage was shaped by spring frost, early-June hailstorms, a cool and dry summer with refreshing September rains, and a long, smooth harvest, resulting in wines defined by deep colour, aromatic complexity, elegant tannins, and outstanding cellaring potential. Critics have praised 2021 Rioja for its fresh profile, structural precision, and elegant tannins, comparing it to benchmark vintages like 2001, 2010, and 2016. Artadi's Valdegines is a single-vineyard Tempranillo from La Rioja, organically certified, and sourced from 35-year-old vines at 600m altitude in Laguardia, known for its pronounced mineral expression from clay-limestone soils. Artadi is a pioneer of terroir-driven winemaking in Spain. The wine displays a luminous cherry red to deep purple hue. The nose offers fine aromatic complexity with notes of red cherries, crushed plums, violet, hibiscus, crushed stone, oyster shells, black pepper, and black tea. On the palate, it is dry, juicy, fresh, and invigorating, with a taut structure, fine-grained tannins, and a long, mineral finish lingering with redcurrant and strawberry. James Suckling awarded it 96 points, and Robert Parker gave it 94+ points, noting its high potential to age nicely in bottle from 2025 onwards.
🍴 This elegant Rioja Tempranillo pairs beautifully with herb-roasted lamb, grilled or braised beef, and game such as venison or wild boar. It also complements pork dishes, mushroom-roasted poultry, and vegetarian recipes featuring grilled vegetables and mushrooms.
🥂 An excellent choice for a special dinner, a wine collector, or as a gift for those who appreciate terroir-driven Spanish reds with significant aging potential. 【Rated 'Very Good' by DOCa Rioja, compared to legendary vintages like 2001 and 2010, with 96 points from James Suckling】
