🏰 The 2009 Chapoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Blanc is an 【unquestionably monumental wine, often described as tasting like pure liquid minerality】. The 2009 Rhone vintage was marked by a fortuitously dry and remarkably warm summer, allowing the Marsanne grapes to thrive and extract every possible nuance from the season. This phenomenal white wine boasts glorious aromas of lychee, toasted hazelnut, brioche, mineral, and honeycomb, with a deep, decadent texture that remains weightless and fresh. It offers complex aromas of vanilla, almonds, dried fruits, and linden-tree, with a marked minerality. The palate is very round and rich, with an elegant balance and ripe white fruit aromas like peach and apricot. It has phenomenal purity and a finish that lasts over a minute, with a potential longevity of 30 to 75 years.
🍴 This rich and complex white wine pairs beautifully with rich fish like salmon or tuna, mature and hard cheeses, grilled or roasted white meats, and even Asian-inspired dishes or those with spicy curry.
🥂 Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a special anniversary celebration, or any occasion where you want to impress with an ethereal and long-lived white wine.
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
