Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Carruades De Lafite, 2007
🏰 The 2007 Carruades de Lafite from Chateau Lafite Rothschild is a remarkable Bordeaux red, often considered 【a sleeper of the vintage, offering sexy, ripe berry fruit and a velvety texture, showing poise and sophistication despite challenging climatic conditions】. This second wine presents a dark ruby color with purple reflections. On the nose, expect notes of ripe fruit and leather, subtly enhanced by spices and fine woody nuances, alongside hints of cedarwood, forest floor, and underbrush. The palate is plump, corpulent, and fruity, revealing a velvety texture and a lush finish. It is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, harmonious crisp blackberry, a touch of iodine, and black cherries, supported by fresh acidity. The 2007 vintage, though mixed climatically, benefited from exacting selection, yielding a wine of subtle yet complex character.
🍴 This elegant Bordeaux pairs beautifully with classic red or white meats, poultry, and game birds. It's also an excellent companion to beef, venison, and a selection of fine cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a special celebration, or a gathering of Bordeaux enthusiasts. This wine is drinking well now and offers delightful maturation potential.
The grapes are harvested from vineyards on the Carruades plateau, adjacent to the Château Lafite flagship vineyards, sharing similar terroir.
The winery selects only one-third of its wine each year for the Lafite flagship, using the remainder for Carruades.
The Lafite flagship is aged in 100% new barrels, which are then used for Carruades the following year.
In the early 20th century, Carruades de Lafite Rothschild became a bestseller after export, gaining more fame than the Lafite flagship. Some sommeliers promoted Carruades de Lafite as a special wine above the Lafite flagship. To correct this unintentional error, the winery renamed Carruades de Lafite to Moulin des Carruades until the 1980s, when they decided to revert to Carruades de Lafite Rothschild...
The 1974 Château Lafite mentioned in an article published in the February 13, 1978 issue of New York Magazine... Rothschild's second label is called Moulin des Carruades.
