🏰 The 2020 vintage in Burgundy saw "correct" volumes, similar to 2019, with some dehydration of grapes in the Côte de Beaune, but overall producing excellent wines. Domaine de Montille's Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2020 is a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune, known for its profoundness and firmness. This Grand Cru sits mid-slope on premier quality clay and limestone soils, with the Domaine's parcel exceptionally well-placed. It has a well-defined bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, crushed stone, and a hint of pencil box. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly slender entry and light grip, redeemed by a keen line of acidity and fine-boned tannins. Dark berry fruit laced with Earl Grey and bay leaf gently fans out towards the finish. Decanter rated it 96 points, noting super-ripe blackberry and plum fruit touched with leather, spice, and smoke. 【Complex and profound with firmness, finesse and endless freshness】. This wine is rich, dense, and full of fine tannins, needing at least 10-15 years to become civilized.
🍴 This savory and classic red Pinot Noir is an excellent pairing for duck, goose, and other game birds.
🥂 A wine for the cellar, ideal for long-term aging and a future celebratory occasion, or a serious tasting for those who appreciate powerful young Grand Cru Burgundy.
