Laurent Ponsot, Gevrey Chambertin En Ergot Cuvee Du Meleze 1er Cru, 2021
🏰 【An iconic French Pinot Noir, this Laurent Ponsot Gevrey Chambertin En Ergot Cuvee du Meleze 1er Cru from the 2021 vintage promises a lavish texture and vibrant tartness, characteristic of this prestigious 布根地 (Burgundy) appellation.】 Gevrey-Chambertin is renowned for its opulent cherry, raspberry, and strawberry notes, complemented by violet hints, spicy oak, and classic earthy tones. While specific vintage details for 2021 from this producer are not available, Gevrey-Chambertin wines are known for their rich red fruit, florals, spice, mushroom, and oaky notes, all delivered with a silky texture and fresh acidity. These wines are capable of extended aging, making them both food-friendly and enjoyable on their own.
🍴 This versatile red 布根地 (Burgundy) wine pairs wonderfully with a wide array of cuisines. It's an excellent match for classic French dishes like Bœuf Bourguignon, Coq au Vin, or Porcini Beef Stew. Consider roasted or grilled meats such as rack of lamb, sirloin of beef, or grilled pork. It also complements game animals, various cheeses (including Epoisses), and even rich seafood like blackened tuna or seared salmon. For vegetarian options, try roasted root vegetables or smoky grilled aubergine.
🥂 A superb choice for a celebratory meal, a sophisticated dinner, or simply to savor on its own. Its inherent freshness and structure suggest it will age gracefully for 5 to 10 years, developing further complexity. Serve at 15-17°C (59-63°F) and consider decanting for 30 minutes to an hour to allow its aromatic profile to fully express itself.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Laurent Ponsot is Laurent Ponsot who resigned from Domaine Ponsot in early 2017 and established his own business in Burgundy with his son. For his new venture, he continues to source fruit from his sharecropping arrangement with the Mercier family, which includes plots of Griotte, Chambertin and Chambolle 1er Cru “Les Charmes,” vines grown by Ponsot since 1982.
