FEATURES
🏰 The 1970 vintage for Bordeaux, particularly for a Grand Cru Classé like Château Trotte Vieille, is generally considered a good to very good year, known for producing wines with solid structure and aging potential. While specific detailed reports for the 1970 Château Trotte Vieille are less common, the vintage overall was well-regarded, offering wines that have evolved gracefully over decades. Expect a classic old-world Bordeaux profile, with a focus on savory notes, dried fruits, and a developed bouquet. 【 A classic, gracefully aged Bordeaux from a well-regarded vintage 】. Wines of this age are a testament to the longevity of fine Bordeaux, often showcasing a delicate balance of fruit, earth, and spice that only time can impart. Be mindful that older bottles may have fragile corks and capsules, which is a normal part of their venerable journey. 🥂 This wine is perfectly suited for a reflective evening, a significant anniversary for those born in 1970, or a gathering of serious wine enthusiasts appreciating the nuances of aged Bordeaux. It's a wine for contemplation and quiet enjoyment rather than boisterous celebration. Serving Advice for a 1970 Vintage: Stand the bottle upright for at least a week to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is highly recommended for older Bordeaux to separate the wine from its sediment and allow it to breathe, typically for 30-60 minutes, but monitor closely as very old wines can fade quickly. Use a two-pronged cork puller or an Ah-So to carefully remove the potentially fragile cork. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Bordeaux glasses. 🍴 This aged Bordeaux would beautifully complement traditional French cuisine. Consider pairings such as roasted lamb with herbs, beef Wellington, mushroom-based dishes, or aged hard cheeses like Comté or Gruyère. The savory and earthy notes of the wine will harmonize with rich, umami-driven flavors.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Trotte Vieille is an estate in Saint Emilion that dates back to 1453.Chateau Trotte Vieille's grand vin is Merlot-predominant, as is the second wine, La Vieille Dame de Trotte Vieille. Harvest is done by hand and the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled concrete vats. This fermentation lasts approximately 15-20 days in the case of the grand vin, after which the wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12-18 months.
