Du Vicomte Liger Belair, Richebourg Grand Cru, 1949
🏰 The 1949 Du Vicomte Liger Belair Richebourg Grand Cru is an exceptionally rare and historic bottle, representing a bygone era of winemaking. Richebourg, a Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy, is celebrated for producing some of the world's most profound and long-lived Pinot Noir wines. While specific tasting notes for this exact bottle and vintage are virtually impossible to find, a 1949 Grand Cru Burgundy, if well-preserved, would offer an incredibly complex bouquet of dried flowers, forest floor, truffle, and tertiary aromas, with a delicate, ethereal palate that speaks of immense age and grace. This is a wine that transcends mere drinking; it's a piece of history. 【 An exceptionally rare and historic Grand Cru from a legendary Burgundy estate 】.
🥂 This is a wine for profound reflection and intimate, once-in-a-lifetime celebrations. It's not merely a drink, but an experience, perfect for a milestone anniversary, a significant birthday, or a gathering of true connoisseurs appreciating vinous history.
Serving Advice for a 1949 Vintage:
Please note that the corks and capsules of such aged wines can become fragile over time, so exercise extra care when opening. Stand the bottle upright for at least a week to allow any sediment to settle. Use a Durand or Ah-So opener to minimize cork breakage. Decanting is generally not recommended for extremely old and delicate wines, as excessive aeration can cause them to fade quickly. If sediment is a concern, carefully pour directly into glasses, leaving the last ounce or two in the bottle. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 14-16°C (57-61°F), to allow its delicate aromas to unfold gradually.
🍴 Given its extreme age and delicate nature, food pairing should be minimal and subtle. Focus on dishes that won't overpower its nuanced character. Think very simply prepared roasted poultry, a delicate mushroom consommé, or even just a piece of aged Comté cheese. The wine itself is the main event.
BACKGROUND
Founded in 2000, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a relatively new wine producer in Burgundy, but the Liger-Belair family has experience in vineyards since 1815. . It is now managed by Louis-Michel Liguet, Comte de Belaire, who has begun planting vineyards again in Vonn-Romagne and Saint-Georges. Comte Liger-Belair now produces its only wine from La Romanée, a Grand Cru vineyard located on the Romanée-Conti hills. The domaine also owns land in several Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyards. Although the domaine is young, its wines are elegantly structured and highly sought after. La Romanée is one of the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy.
