🏰 The 2012 vintage in 布根地 (Burgundy) was challenging due to weather patterns, yet the Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques 1er Cru 2012 emerged remarkably triumphant, standing as a testament to resilience and elegance. Jean-Marie Fourrier is renowned for transforming the estate's once-rustic wines into bottles of unparalleled elegance, focusing on vine health and age, with vines averaging 50-70 years old. The wine is crafted with minimal new oak, typically no more than 20%. On the nose, it's exuberantly spicy, airy, and cool, with a mix of raspberry, cherry, red currant, and wet stone character, often showing a hint of stems and needing time for its aromatics to coalesce. The palate is described as divine, with supremely fine tannins, perfectly judged acidity, and an utterly harmonious profile. Expect precision of red berries interwoven with hints of liquorice and fine spices, supported by a firm yet refined tannic structure. It offers outstanding breadth and saline complexity, with noble tannins thoroughly coated by fruit, leading to a wonderfully persistent finish. 【A testament to terroir and tenacity from a challenging vintage】
🍴 This exquisite red 布根地 (Burgundy) pairs beautifully with classic French cuisine such as roasted duck, coq au vin, game birds, and mushroom-based dishes. For a more international pairing, consider pan-seared scallops with a rich sauce or a delicate beef carpaccio.
🥂 This wine is an ideal choice for a special occasion, a fine dining experience, or a dedicated 布根地 (Burgundy) tasting. It also represents a compelling investment for collectors, with significant potential for maturation.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Fourrier is a well-regarded wine producer based in Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy's northern Côte de Nuits subregion, France. Its wines mostly made from Pinot Noir. Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family estate in 1994, aged just 23. He worked with the legendary Henri Jayer in Vosne-Romanée in the late 1980s. The latter's influence is reflected in the domaine's fastidious approach in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the winery.
