FEATURES
🏰 The 2003 vintage in Burgundy was exceptionally hot, dry, and sunny, leading to an unusually early harvest with tiny yields. While initially considered an uneven vintage for reds, top estates like Georges Mugneret-Gibourg produced wines of remarkable quality. The red wines from 2003 shimmer with deep, intense color and a complex nose of well-ripened red and black fruits, incorporating spicy notes. They are rich, meaty, and show real breeding, with a solid, well-balanced structure that points to a splendid future and high keeping potential. Despite initial concerns about low acidity and potential for rusticity, many 2003s have shown longer aging potential than expected, becoming more attractive and complex with age. Georges Mugneret-Gibourg's Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru from 2003 is an exquisite example, with a delicate nose dominated by fruits of the forest and undergrowth fragrances, complemented by spicy hints. On the palate, the wine is rich with noble and silky tannins, showcasing outstanding richness and balance. It is black-fruited, with exceptional depth of flavor and a full body. 【This powerful and balanced Grand Cru from a challenging hot vintage shows remarkable aging potential】. 🥂 This Grand Cru is a magnificent choice for a milestone celebration, a serious wine tasting, or as a cherished gift for a Burgundy connoisseur. While it can be appreciated after five years, it has the potential to be kept for 10 years and easily enjoyed for up to 20 years. Given its age, older corks can be fragile, so use a proper corkscrew. Decanting for 1-2 hours is advisable to allow the wine to fully open up and to separate any sediment. Serve at a cool cellar temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F). 🍴 This Ruchottes-Chambertin pairs beautifully with classic Burgundy dishes. Consider duck confit, beef in pastry crust, sautéed mushrooms, or the local Ami du Chambertin cheese. It's also an excellent match for roasted duck, goose, and various game birds.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is a French producer of high-quality Pinot Noir located in the Côte de Nuits, famous for its wines from Burgundy's most popular vineyards. The winery was founded in 1933, and in the 1950s small plots of land were purchased to expand the family's vineyards. Incorporated in 2009 as Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The most rare and expensive wines of the winery come from the Grand Cru vineyards Ruchottes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Echézeaux, and it also produces Burgundy red wine from multiple Premier Cru vineyards.
