Chapoutier, Chateauneuf Du Pape Croix De Bois, 2021
🏰 The 2021 Chapoutier Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois is a powerful and expressive red from the renowned Rhone Valley, offering a 【pure Grenache expression from old vines on the iconic galets roulés soils】. M. Chapoutier, a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture, crafts wines that truly reflect their terroir. The 2021 vintage in the Rhone was noted for its freshness and balance. Expect a rich bouquet of vibrant red fruits like raspberry and kirsch, layered with notes of black pepper, garrigue herbs, and a hint of licorice. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with a spicy warmth, robust tannins, and a long, satisfying finish.
🍴 Chinese Cantonese food pairing: This robust Chateauneuf-du-Pape pairs beautifully with hearty Cantonese dishes such as braised lamb stew (枝竹羊腩煲), roasted suckling pig (乳豬), or rich beef brisket curry (咖喱牛腩). For Western cuisine, ideal pairings include roasted lamb, beef bourguignon, game meats, or strong, aged cheeses.
🥂 Fit for event: Perfect for a hearty dinner party, a winter gathering, or a special meal with friends who appreciate powerful and aromatic red wines.
Serving: Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow the wine to fully express its complex aromas and soften its tannins.
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
