🏰 【A clear star of the challenging 2021 vintage, Chateau Beychevelle delivers an elegant, understated, and impeccably balanced expression of Saint-Julien.】 This wine, with its bright ruby color, opens with notes of sweet berry compote, plums, and creamy new oak. The medium to full-bodied palate offers an unusually sweet core of fruit for the vintage, framed by chewy tannins and concluding with a vanillin-inflected finish. Expect dark-toned fruit, gravel, menthol, licorice, and spice to build with time in the glass.
🍴 This refined Saint-Julien pairs wonderfully with classic red meat dishes, such as roasted duck or beef tenderloin. It also shows versatility with many Asian dishes and a selection of characterful cheeses.
🥂 This wine is built for the long haul, needing 4-5 years to fully integrate its oak and capable of evolving for two decades, with an anticipated drinking window from 2025-2038. It's an excellent choice for a long-term cellar investment, a gift for a future celebration, or for those who appreciate the rewards of patience.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Beychevelle is a wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Medoc. The Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wine is known for its supple power and smooth, rich texture, and better vintages have great aging ability. In the Bordeaux Classification of 1855 it was ranked a fourth growth. The 250-hectare (620-acre) estate is situated in the extreme southeast of the appellation, just to the south of Branaire-Ducru. The Beychevelle vineyard covers 90ha (222 acres) of deep Garonne gravel, with 62 percent planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, which is dominant in the wine itself. The remaining vineyard has 31 percent Merlot, 5 percent Cabernet Franc and 2 percent Petit Verdot.
