🏰The 2014 Des Comtes Lafon Montrachet Grand Cru is a 【stunningly good Montrachet, incredibly powerful yet focused】, from a vintage that produced wines with superb development potential. This Chardonnay from 布根地 (Burgundy) offers a gorgeous and very complex bouquet with scents of dried quince, citrus lemon, almond, and minerals, often with a subtle reduction. The palate is exceptionally well-balanced, pure, fresh, and saline on the entry, with a superb line of acidity. It builds in the glass to a feisty, bravura finish tinged with lemon thyme and sherbet, showcasing completeness and a bewitching sense of harmony.
🍴 This Montrachet Grand Cru is a magnificent pairing for luxurious dishes such as roasted lobster, pan-seared scallops with a creamy sauce, foie gras, or rich poultry like capon. It also complements aged Comté cheese beautifully.
🥂 This is a wine for a truly exceptional occasion, a grand celebration, or a serious tasting among connoisseurs. While it can be enjoyed now for its purity and intensity, it is built for the long haul and will require several years in bottle to fully unfurl its complexities, with an aging potential extending to 2050.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
