🏰The 2008 Duroche Gevrey Chambertin is a classic expression from a vintage that, while initially challenging, produced 【elegant, savory, and mineral-driven red Burgundies with excellent freshness and aging potential】 from top producers. The 2008 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a cool, wet growing season followed by a saving grace of a dry, sunny September, allowing for good phenolic ripeness. Duroche is a highly respected producer known for crafting Gevrey-Chambertin that beautifully expresses its terroir. Expect a vibrant ruby wine with evolving aromas of 【red berries, cherry, forest floor, and a distinctive earthy, savory character】, supported by fine tannins and a persistent, mineral-laced finish.
🍴 This Gevrey-Chambertin is a superb match for robust and earthy dishes. Consider roasted game birds like pheasant or duck, beef bourguignon, coq au vin, or grilled red meats. It also pairs wonderfully with mushroom-based dishes, truffle creations, and medium-aged cheeses like Comté or Époisses. For a classic pairing, try it with roasted venison.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner, a special occasion, or as a valued addition to a Burgundy collection. This wine is in a beautiful drinking window now and will continue to evolve over the next several years.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Duroche is a famous manor located in Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. The winery is owned and operated by Pierre Duroché, the fifth generation of the Duroché family, and specializes in the production of Pinot Noir red wine. The winery grows grapes in four Grand Crus, first planted in 1920 and now has a total of about 8 hectares (20 acres) of vines. Situated on soil rich in limestone and containing small amounts of sand marl. Wine is made without fining or filtration. In addition to its Grand Cru vineyards, it also owns three Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru vineyards. The winery produces five village wines from the village of Côte de Nuits, as well as two Burgundy wines, one of which is a Chardonnay-based Burgundy white.
