FEATURES
🏰The 2007 vintage in Burgundy was considered a challenging but ultimately rewarding year, producing wines that are often charming, fresh, and approachable in their youth, yet capable of graceful aging. Domaine des Comtes Lafon, a renowned producer in Meursault, is celebrated for its exceptional white wines, but its red wines, particularly from Volnay, have gained significant recognition for their quality in recent vintages. The estate adopted organic practices in 1995 and has been entirely biodynamic since 1998. The 2007 Santenots du Milieu from Comtes Lafon is described as deep, young, and very pure, with a promising nose of 【cassis, dark berries, woodsmoke, French roast, dark soil tones, gamebirds, and a topnote of currant leaf】. On the palate, it is deep, full-bodied, and offers stellar mid-palate concentration with superb transparency, ripe tannins, tangy acids, and outstanding length. Other notes mention a perfumed bouquet of 【black cherry, licorice, violet, and minerals】, with a lush, sweet, and seamless palate of 【cherry and flowers along with a whiff of game】. It has suave tannins and a lingering perfume, with the stuffing to age but also offering early accessibility. Some recent tastings reveal a darker ruby color, with a full and musky nose of 【licorice, blackberry, and anise scents】, and a powerful palate of 【dense black raspberry and bing cherry fruit mixed with earth and iron】.
🍴 This Volnay 1er Cru is an excellent match for roasted poultry, pan-seared duck breast, mushroom-based dishes, or delicate lamb preparations. It also pairs well with aged Comte or Gruyere cheese.
🥂 Fit for event: Perfect for a celebratory dinner, a special anniversary, or a serious Burgundy tasting. For a 2007 vintage, decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow the wine to open up and express its full complexity. Serve at around 16-18°C (60-64°F). While this wine is still showing freshness, older vintages can sometimes have fragile corks, so open with care.
