🏰 The 2020 vintage in Burgundy is widely regarded as a very good to excellent year, producing wines with notable concentration, freshness, and a promising structure for aging. Pommard wines, known for their robust and powerful character, would particularly benefit from such a vintage. Launay Horiot's Pommard Les Perrieres, a Premier Cru vineyard, is expected to embody the classic traits of this appellation: a structured and intense red Burgundy with deep dark fruit flavors, earthy undertones, and firm tannins that will soften and integrate with time. While specific tasting notes for this exact wine and vintage are not readily available, the general vintage characteristics suggest a wine of considerable depth and potential. 【A powerful and structured Pommard Premier Cru from a highly regarded Burgundy vintage.】
🍴 This robust Pommard Premier Cru is an excellent partner for hearty red meat dishes. Think roasted venison, grilled ribeye steak, or a rich beef stew with root vegetables. It also pairs beautifully with game birds like pheasant or partridge, and earthy mushroom dishes. For cheese, consider mature, firm cheeses such as aged Cheddar or a strong Époisses.
🥂 Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with discerning guests, or as a cellar addition for those who appreciate powerful, age-worthy red Burgundy. Its youthful vigor suggests it will benefit from decanting if consumed now, or reward patience with several years of cellaring.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Launay-Horiot is a wine producer based in the village of Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. It makes a range of Pinot Noir based wines from the Pommard and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations, the latter further north in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine covers around four hectares (10 acres) of vineyard although prior to an inheritance dispute in the early 2000s, the wider family holdings covered over 10 hectares (25 acres). The domaine is overseen by former fighter pilot Xavier Horiot.
